Abstract
A new cotton dust sampler has been designed and its sampling characteristics have been determined. This unit, which has a cyclonic fractionator, has a cut-point of 10.1 µm aerodynamic diameter (AED) and a penetration curve with a slope of 1.31. The operating characteristics of this sampler include a sampling rate of 50 L/min (1.77 ft3/min) and collection of particulate matter on an upward facing horizontal filter. Collected particulate matter is uniformly deposited on the after-filter of the sampler. The cut-point of the cyclonic sampler is approximately the same as the vertical elutriator; however, the fractionator curve is steeper for the cyclonic sampler and the cyclonic sampler is less sensitive to wind speed effects.
