CD-ROMs AND DATABASES AS VEHICLES FOR CHEMICAL SAFETY INFORMATION

Pages 683-696 | Published online: 04 Jun 2010

Abstract

The information sciences are rapidly evolving and incorporating microelectronic technologies. Databases on CD-ROMs are increasingly used by safety professionals all over the world. This review explains existing data options and describes strategies for combining information from different sources. Tests using various data-searching techniques were carried out. The results indicate that CD-ROM software is increasingly designed to make searching for information easier for individuals who are not professional information specialists. A model relational database management system was prepared as part of a decision-support system for safety professionals. A review of databases available internationally also is provided.
