I’ll Cry If I Want To: The Party (2017)

Notes on contributor

B. C. Roberts, PhD, is the Film-Video Editor for the Journal of Bisexuality. When not writing about bi-related issues, she teaches the art and craft of essay to undergraduates at Pace University, where she is an Adjunct Professor in the English Department.

Notes

1 Although most evident in the conflict between April and Gottfried, the question of idealism versus pragmatism is essentially what the other characters debate as well, whether the topic is sleeping with men (Ginny/Martha), making money (Bill/Tom), or seeking private medical care (April/Janet). That they are able to join forces when faced with a serious event suggests the position favored in the film is one of idealistic pragmatism or, if you like, pragmatic idealism.
