ABSTRACT

Six Sigma is recognized as a proven management strategy for performance improvement and is gradually being adapted by hospitals and healthcare facilities. OSF Saint Francis Medical Center deployed Six Sigma in 2002 and has realized positive results with this strategy in clinical, quality, service, and financial outcomes. When hospitals decide to implement Six Sigma, there is an opportunity for librarians to provide supportive services such as collection resources and expert literature searching. With training, librarians can also participate on project teams and have the potential to utilize Six Sigma methodology to improve library processes.
