Pages 16-24 | Published online: 08 Sep 2008

ABSTRACT

Educating consumers, patients, and hospital staff is very often an integral role of a hospital librarians' professional work. The educational process can include creating and teaching classes, providing individual consultations, and developing print and online instructional materials. Instructional design principles can provide a viable pathway for assessing our patron's needs, delivering the information, and evaluating the educational results. This article was designed to describe some of these basic principles and how they can be used within the hospital library environment.
