Not Just Another Pretty Interface: Expert Information Searching and Retrieval

Pages 155-174 | Received 25 Sep 2007, Accepted 08 Oct 2007, Published online: 07 Sep 2008

ABSTRACT

Hospital librarians' practice includes the art and science of preparation for the search, use of complex tools for information retrieval, the search process, and the value-added delivery of results that completes information retrieval. They do focused searching for specific published information for themselves (for instance for evidence-based librarianship or collection development) or as intermediary searchers for their clients. Library schools' full semester courses in this subject usually are electives, so this article is an introduction for some and a review for others.
