Pages 193-200 | Published online: 07 Sep 2008

ABSTRACT

In 1996, the Library and Information Network for the Community (LINC), a small, specialized library focusing on the field of disability and special healthcare needs, formally opened its doors. Functioning under the direction of the Center for Development and Disability (CDD) at University of New Mexico's Health Science Center (UNM/HSC), LINC was created to provide comprehensive disability-related library and resource services to consumers residing in New Mexico and to the academic community within University of New Mexico. This article provides a narrative description of the history and service provided by LINC and discusses the reasons a specialized library such as LINC is important for New Mexicans.
