ABSTRACT

Information prospecting involves trading in information to provide services for a fee. A professional endowed with appropriate skills for information access and retrieval, computer literacy and the resourcefulness to explore the vast opportunities available within the global village in a free and competitive market is in good position to be successful in such a venture. Information transactions include information brokerage, infopreneurship and information management consultancy, amongst others. They are based on the concept of ascribing value to information i.e. information for sale. These forms of transactions are viable avenues for augmenting ones living before and after retirement from paid employment. All that will be required is the saving of the initial capital to put the necessary infrastructure in place for smooth take off.
