Abstract

The Great Rivers Partners for Health-e People (GRPHP) health literacy awareness project took place between March 2008 and December 2009 in the counties of southwestern Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota, and northeastern Iowa. This community collaborative funded by a subcontract from the National Library of Medicine brought health literacy awareness to health care professionals, health professions students, and consumers via Web-based programming and instructor-led sessions. This awareness project also included a qualitative investigation of the use of iPods, Zunes, and portable DVD players for the dissemination of patient education.

The current address of Elly Lensch is Department of Education, Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, Iowa, USA.

This project has been funded by the National Library of Medicine under Contract No. NO1–LM–6–3503 with the University of Illinois at Chicago, Library of the Health Sciences. Additional funds were provided by Southwest Wisconsin Area Health Education Center, Franciscan Skemp Foundation, Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation, Inc., and Gundersen Lutheran Health System.
