Using a “Survivor” Style Game to Guide Nursing Research into Practice

Abstract

The purpose of this project was to introduce the nurses to finding and applying information from nursing research to clinical practice. It was designed in a style similar to the elimination game and reality television show “Survivor” (1). The medical librarian offered bibliographic instruction in the form of “reward challenges” in exchange for prizes. Unit policies that were not supported by nursing research were “voted off.” Using a game for teaching nurses to search for and apply research findings to current practice could make adopting the search for evidence-based practice more appealing and make the hospital library more interesting.
