Abstract

The HealthCare Academy for Middle School Pupils’ Success (HCAMPS) is a week-long summer camp experience for seventh-grade students in the Evansville, Indiana, area. Designed by a development team consisting of key community stakeholders in the health professions community, the program is entering its fifth year and has impacted more than 100 local students. HCAMPS has generated a measurable impact on the early decision-making of middle schoolers considering the health professions as a career and has also generated more intangible benefits, such as community goodwill, local news coverage for sponsoring institutions, and increased visibility of the role of hospital librarians in education and community outreach.
