Impact of Hospital Librarian’s Participation in the Magnet Program: A Solo Librarian’s Journey

ABSTRACT

When a hospital earns magnet status, it is compelled to find ways to infuse evidence-based practice culture into the nursing staff. At the Dayton Children’s Hospital, this was accomplished by adopting a mentor-mentee program. Mentors set up classes during which they could teach and mentees learn the steps of the evidence-based practice process. When the topic moved to literature searching, the medical librarian gave a lecture/demonstration to the mentees. This article discusses the impact of the medical librarian’s participation in this program. A 10-item survey was used to gather the mentees comfort level in searching literature after the session.
