Abstract

Estimation of random and spatial variability of soil properties of a Typic Ustochrept in the semiarid region of northwestern India showed that pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, available P, and available K were normally distributed. Soil pH exhibited least variation (CV = 2%), followed by EC and organic carbon; available P showed the highest variation (CV = 59%). Semivariograms showed that only pH and EC conformed to second‐order stationarity; both had a range of 24 m. A continuous variation was observed in organic carbon and available P and K contents, showing thereby that krigging cannot be used for intrapolation of these properties.
