Abstract

This article presents the application of Taguchi robust design techniques for the tuning of power system stabilizers in a multi-machine power system. The power system stabilizer tuning is performed in two phases. In the first pre-elimination phase, the compound factor method is used to identify the significant and insignificant power system stabilizer parameters. In the second phase, only the significant power system stabilizer parameters are fine-tuned iteratively using the Taguchi optimization procedure. The efficacy of the proposed design technique has been evaluated on widely used a 10-generator, 39-bus New-England power system.
