Abstract

A wind power plant meets many power quality issues when it is connected with a microgrid, because the voltage and frequency are not stable in a microgrid. This article envisages a new power quality conditioner to regulate the supply frequency, control the power flow, minimize current harmonics, and regulate the voltage for a fixed-speed induction generator type wind generator. The proposed new power line conditioner is called a universal power line manager. The control circuit of the universal power line manager is a combination of the control system of a unified power quality conditioner, power flow control, and a frequency regulator. For these reasons, the proposed universal power line manager is very suitable for wind power generators. The universal power line manager's matrix converter controls the windmill power flow with respect to the microgrid frequency and voltage. Hence, the microgrid can maintain constant voltage and frequency. The complete system has been developed, analyzed, and validated by MATLAB/Simulink (The MathWorks, Natick, Massachusetts, USA). Simulation results are presented to confirm that the new approach has better performance for a wind turbine generator.
