Abstract

The principal author developed a workshop through the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program, based on central Wisconsin's prairie chicken population, to present teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality environmental education. Seventeen high school teachers attended the 2003 workshop. Pre-and post-workshop surveys were used for evaluation. Teacher knowledge about the subject increased from 48% correct responses pre-workshop to 83% correct responses following the workshop. Most participants indicated intent to infuse the information gained during this workshop into their curriculum. All participants agreed that the BOW workshop format is effective and that this workshop would influence their future teaching.
