Abstract
A survey, developed to ascertain and compare perceptions among American teachers of the gifted (ATG), American parents of the gifted (APG), Korean teachers of the gifted (KTG), and Korean parents of the gifted (KPG) regarding underachievement in gifted youngsters, was distributed to 288 teachers and parents: 60 ATG, 77 APG, 28 KTG, and 50 KPG responded. Four items were found to differ between APG and KPG: item 1 (lack of interest in particular subject areas); item 2 (unrewarded creativity); item 4 (pressure to compete in the classroom); and item 8 (poor study/work habits). Results are discussed in terms of cultural differences.
