ABSTRACT

Urban gardens are well established on the activist, policy and research agendas. This article addresses urban gardens as learning spaces for nonformal and informal learning activities. It examines different forms of intergenerational learning that take place in urban gardens. The article comprises an extensive review of the literature with regard to four modalities of intergenerational learning activities in urban gardens: household spaces; service-based spaces; shared-site spaces; and contested spaces.
