Custodial Grandparents: Policies Affecting Care

Pages 177-190 | Published online: 16 Jun 2009

Abstract

Grandparent caregivers deal with many issues and challenges in their efforts to raise their grandchildren. Policies greatly impact the lives of these families through the supports and benefits that they can offer. This paper focuses on policies in the areas of financial support, housing, and legal issues, and their effects on custodial grandparents. The Kinship Navigator Program, a policy that has been instituted in many states to improve service access, is also discussed.
