Representing East Asians in Intercultural Communication Textbooks: A Select Review

Pages 312-328 | Published online: 23 Nov 2006

Notes

1. Although other scholars have tried to avoid such dichotomous thinking by proposing mediating constructs such as ideocentric and allocentric (Triandis, Citation1995) and interdependent and independent self-construals (Kim et al., Citation1996), they still endorse the contrast between East and West.

2. For example, although the text admits racism continues to be a serious problem in the United States and lists various victim groups such as Asian Americans, there is no further discussion about their history (see pp. 326–327).
