LATIN AMERICAN HIGHER EDUCATION AT THE CROSSROADS: THE CHRISTIAN CHALLENGE OF BEING TRANSFORMED THROUGH THE RENEWAL OF UNDERSTANDING

Pages 235-250 | Published online: 29 Oct 2010

Abstract

This article presents the author s vision of the purpose of Christian higher education, namely, to transform people and society through a renewal of understanding as the Apostle Paul mentions in Romans 12: 2. The article is the result of a long reflection on this text, which began during the author s college years while a member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, and during a series of lectures led by Dr. Ren Padilla at a university in Mexico. The word transformation summarizes the effects of the good news of the cross-in individuals, and through them-in society and its structures. The possibility of a true alternative lies in offering a genuinely different understanding of reality, an educational process in the broadest sense of the word.
