Dilatometry and X‐Ray Study of Orientational Phase Transitions in C60

Abstract

In the present paper, the correlation between the lattice parameter in fullerites C60 and the volume discontinuity during the phase transition scfcc was studied. The dependence has a complicated nature, and we have developed a simple combinatorical model for a quantative description. It follows from the model that the dimers (C60)2 also play a significant role in the orientational phase transition. The kinetical study of the phase transition also corroborates this model.
