Preparation and Characterization of the Dimeric C₇₀ Fullerene Oxide C₁₄₀O

Abstract

Highly pure, isomerically mixed dimeric C₇₀ fullerene oxide C₁₄₀O was prepared in preparative amounts using conventional laboratory methods. Unknown trimeric C₇₀ fullerene oxides C₂₁₀O_n (n = 2, 3) were by‐products of the preparation. The prepared isomeric C₁₄₀O mixture was characterized by high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), mass‐ (MS‐), infra‐red‐ (IR‐), and ultraviolet‐visible‐ (UV‐vis‐) spectroscopies, as well as by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and thermo‐gravimetric analyses (TGA).
