Abstract

Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) supported chromium oxide (Cr2O3), magnesium oxide (MgO), vanadous oxide (V2O3) catalysts were prepared from MWCNT with different organometallic compounds chromium acetylacetonate {Cr(C5H7O2)3}, magnesium acetate tetrahydrate {Mg(CH2COO)2·4H2O}, and vanadyl acetylacetonate {VO(C5H7O2)2}. The obtained catalysts were characterized by BET surface area, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). In addition, we used methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution under condition of visible light irradiation to determine their photocatalytic degradation efficiency. In conclusion, the sample V2O3/CNT had excellent photocatalytic degradation for MB solution, which showed much higher photocatalytic degradation efficiency than samples Cr2O3/CNT and MgO/CNT.
