Abstract

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were filled with ferrocene molecules and the inner tube growth inside the filled SWCNTs that occurred during vacuum annealing at temperatures between 500 and 1000 °C was studied by Raman spectroscopy. The quantitative analysis of Raman spectra revealed that the growth temperatures of inner tubes increase by ∼110 °C with increasing the tube diameter by ∼0.3 nm and that they do not depend on the chiral angle. The growth temperatures of inner tubes inside ferrocene-filled SWCNTs are also compared with those reported for cobaltocene- and nickelocene-filled SWCNTs. We find that the growth temperatures of inner tubes decrease in the line with ferrocene-cobaltocene-nickelocene.
