Epilepsy and the double bind

Pages 74-77 | Published online: 20 Oct 2009

Abstract

This paper notes similarities between the so‐called “double bind”; situation hypothesized in the etiology of schizophrenia and the family interactions and communication patterns in a number of reported cases of epilepsy. Implications for treatment of epileptics are discussed. It is concluded that the studies reviewed are provocative enough to warrant well‐designed research investigating communication patterns and family relationships in the families of epileptics.
