Abstract

A pinned–pinned beam with one end fixed and the other end free to slide horizontally is studied. Dry friction damping is modeled at the support boundaries of the beam. In order to analyze the variation of the equivalent viscous damping caused by the presliding friction, the LuGre friction model is employed. The relationship between the equivalent viscous damping and the relative vibration amplitude ratio is obtained by using the moving autoregressive model (MARM) method. The equivalent viscous damping caused by both sliding and the presliding friction is obtained by numerical simulation.
