Beyondblue: The National Depression Initiative

Abstract

Beyondblue <http://www.beyondblue.org.au> is an initiative with the goal of providing an Australian national focus on increasing awareness and understanding of and reducing the stigma associated with depression, anxiety, substance misuse disorders, and related mental disorders. Beyondblue operates as an independent not-for-profit organization with financial backing from the Australian national government and all state governments. In addition to maintaining the Web site, Beyondblue hosts extensive print and media campaigns to promote mental health awareness and support. Features include materials for young people (such as Youth Beyondblue), persons living in rural and remote areas, new mothers, families, men, and other culturally and socially diverse communities.
