Thyroid Disorders: A Webliography

Abstract

Health problems arise when the thyroid gland, part of the endocrine system, generates hormone levels that are either too high or too low, affecting the body’s ability to regulate metabolism and other essential functions, or becomes cancerous. According to the American Thyroid Association, over 10% of Americans will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetimes, however, as many as 60% of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition. This article covers major thyroid diseases, touching on common symptoms and treatment options as well as reputable web resources for further relevant information. Reassuringly, patients with thyroid disorders commonly thrive once their conditions are recognized and properly treated.
