1Needless to say, national media were positive toward the government effort regarding global recession. Any dissident views in the media over the harmonious-society-guided measures remain unreported. Occasionally, critics rhapsodized about the government's triumph over the global recession with a footnote: they hope that the government has more political transparency and accountability (CitationCheng et al., 2009). This is more rhetoric; in reality, the discourse of harmony means no questioning the authorities.
