Accessing the NIH Portfolio through a Link Resolver: Challenges and Outcomes

Abstract

Link resolvers are powerful tools through which libraries can provide access to myriad resources to users at the point of research. The NIH Portfolio is a valuable resource where articles from journals are regularly deposited in PMC in compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy, but is not particularly friendly for use in a link resolver. What happens when you try to merge the two? This article describes the challenges, implementation, and analysis of the experience at the LSU Health New Orleans Library when journals available through the NIH Portfolio were added to our link resolver.
