ABSTRACT

Studies of the addition of coffee grounds and sugarcane fibers into briquettes were investigated. The use of different biomass aimed at obtaining efficient briquettes with better biofuels characteristics and results. In this work, mechanical and thermal characterizations were studied. The higher percentage of sugarcane fibers in the briquettes promoted an increase of elastic modulus and mechanical resistance. Thermal conversion occurred in temperature range of 200-530°C presenting a devolatilization process, related cellulose and lignin. The results of moisture and ash content of the briquettes presented near values. The good results for higher heating value (HHV) from 20.32 MJ.kg−1 to 21.92 MJ.kg−1 can be related to the biomass compositions used. Therefore, these agroindustrial wastes presented a good potential for briquetting and reuse as a biofuel source.
