An Experimental Investigation on Low-velocity Impact Response of Abaca/Epoxy Bio-composite

ABSTRACT

Highlights

  • Drop weight impact test has been carried out on abaca/epoxy composites.

  • Discussed the effect of ply-orientation on impact force and energy absorption.

  • By placing 45° ply on the impact surface, the angle-ply sample withstood 10.94% more impact force than cross-ply.

  • Post-impact characteristics reveal the dominant failure in the cross-ply- and angle-ply-oriented samples.
