Comprehensive Characterization of Date Palm Petiole Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites: Effect of Fiber Treatment and Loading on Various Properties

ABSTRACT

This research is based on evaluation of fiber treatment and concentration on physical (density), mechanical (tensile strength, Young’ modulus, flexural, impact strength) and thermal properties of untreated and treated date-palm petiole fiber reinforced epoxy composites. For these purpose, composites with varying weight % (i.e., 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%) of untreated and acrylic acid treated date palm petiole fibers (DPP) were included in epoxy resin using hand lay-up technique. The experimental values revealed that composite with 20 wt% fiber concentration shows good tensile strength, Young’s modulus, impact strength, and flexural strength, being these values 42.07MPa, 2.16 GPa, 3.23 kJ/m2, and 59.18 MPa, respectively. Finally, the analyses of fracture surface due to delamination, pull-out of the fibers and percentage of voids have been verified using scanning electron microscope.

本研究基于未经处理和处理的椰枣叶柄纤维增强环氧复合材料的物理(密度)、机械 (拉伸强度、杨氏模量、弯曲强度、冲击强度) 和热性能的纤维处理和浓度评估. 为此, 采用手糊技术将未经处理和丙烯酸处理的枣椰叶柄纤维 (DP) 的重量 (即5%、10%、15%、20%和25%) 不同的复合材料加入环氧树脂中. 实验结果表明, 纤维浓度为20wt%的复合材料具有良好的拉伸强度、杨氏模量、冲击强度和弯曲强度, 分别为42.07MPa、2.16gpa、3.23kj/m2和59.18mpa. 最后, 利用扫描电子显微镜验证了分层、纤维拔出和空隙率引起的断裂面分析.
