Abstract

This study explores the research gaps in tourism event sustainability and value creation in event management and suggests areas for future research. The authors used a Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR) method to analyze relevant research published between 2002-2022, employing PRISMA techniques and thematic content analysis. The study found that tourism event sustainability involves three essential social, economic, and environmental attributes. Most past research on the topic of tourism event sustainability and value creation has focused on waste management, community development, and destination image. Past research emphasizes the need for more empirical research to understand the inter-relationship between sustainability and value creation, which is essential for event businesses’ competitive and strategic management. This study is one of the first to systematically review the literature on event management research in relation to sustainability and value creation. The study also suggests research priorities to enhance tourism event management strategies and clarify the ambiguity surrounding sustainability and value creation in modern tourism event management.
