Xu Youwei 徐有威 is Professor of Modern Chinese History in the History Department of Shanghai University, and also Director of the Center for Fascist Studies within the History Department. His main field of interest is Republican History, focusing primarily on bandits and on the role played by the fascist movement in modern Chinese history. Philip Billingsley is Professor of Chinese History and Culture at Momoyama Gakuin (St. Andrew's) University, Osaka, Japan.
