Nuclear Power: Locally Unwanted for Good Reason

Pages 10-13 | Published online: 09 May 2011

Abstract

Until recently, the dangers and environmental problems associated with nuclear power production were taken for granted. However, the nuclear power industry has been seeking to leverage global warming as a way to revive its sagging fortunes. Nuclear power, the industry reasoning goes, generates no greenhouse gas emissions and can provide safe, cost-effective power to meet an ever-growing demand, all without contributing to global warming.
