Abstract
Clients of driving under the influence (DUI) programs with co-occurring mental health disorders are more likely to relapse or repeat their offense. DUI programs often do not address mental health problems, as they may not be required to do so by state regulations. This article presents a case study of one program that is intervening using a clinical team composed of clinical supervisors and counselors. Over the course of 3 years, the DUI program had 835 clients referred to this clinical team for assessment and intervention. About 50% of the clients were drinking while taking medication and 17% had untreated anxiety or depression. A case vignette is presented to demonstrate the assessment and intervention process.
