Heather Smith
Heather Smith joined Newcastle University as a lecturer in education in September 2004. Prior to joining the University, she taught in the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand, and worked as a specialist teacher of bilingual pupils in England. Her PhD research, also undertaken at Newcastle, concerned the microgenetic analysis of small groups of bilingual pupils learning together while playing language games. Her underlying research interest lies in education equity. Recent articles report on examination of the teaching of critical Whiteness studies to student teachers in England, employing both critical race theory and critical discourse analysis as analytic frameworks.
