Note from the Editor-in-Chief: A Second Farewell

Abstract

In my final note as Editor-in-Chief of the journal, I express my appreciation for the talented staff and make an announcement about the future leadership of the journal.

Dear readers,

I think it fitting that as fate would have it, I write to you in this particular issue of the journal, the same one in which the dedication Farewell: In Remembrance of Lewis Aron (this issue) appears. In one of my last conversations with Lew, I told him that I had decided to step down from my position as Editor in Chief of the journal this Fall, as of this issue in fact, after close to eleven years in the role. And so here now is my second goodbye. I have deeply appreciated—even cherished this job, and the opportunity it afforded me to help grow this journal and thereby contribute to the relational literature that I love and continue to learn from. I have had the rare good fortune to publish first-time and early-career authors whose voices now inform and enrich our field, and new writing by more seasoned theoreticians. Working with these writers has been a highlight for me.

The list of pleasures —as well as stressors and challenges, of course, is too long to enumerate. But among the most satisfying has been the chance to work alongside my close friend and colleague of over 30 years Hillary Grill, who introduced me to Perspectives and played a central role in its growth and success for well over a decade. It has also been extremely gratifying to work with my other talented, hardworking collaborators and friends Rachel Sopher, Rachel Altstein, Karen Perlman, Sharyn Leff, Jill Choder-Goldman, Alexandra Eitel, Andrea Fortunato, Matt Aibel, Anja Behm, Sally Bjorklund and former editors Deborah Pines and Sheldon Itzkowitz. Additionally, I want to thank Creative Literary Arts founding editor Bonnie Zindel for her wonderfully creative, innovative work and welcome to our new Creative Literary Arts Editor Allison Katz, who has contributed to the journal in numerous and important ways and is already beginning to make a positive impact in her new role. I am deeply grateful for and appreciative of each one of them, without whom I could never have done my job.

I am excited to announce that Psychoanalytic Perspectives will be in excellent hands. Rachel Sopher is stepping in to the role of Editor in Chief as of our next issue, and I am as impressed by the energy and vision she is already bringing to her upcoming position as I have been by her talented leadership as Senior and then Managing Editor of the journal. We are very fortunate to have her at the helm. And in closing, I want to thank the Board of Directors of NIP for entrusting me with this position and generously supporting me throughout my tenure. Special thanks to Clemens Loew, Private Lives Editor and NIP Founding Board member for his ongoing support and creative, enthusiastic leadership of the journal for close to 17 years. I especially want to thank and recognize NIP Founding Board member Kenneth Frank, the journal’s Senior Consulting Editor, for working with former editor Deborah Pines to bring me into the role, for consulting with and supporting me throughout these years, for nourishing Perspectives from its inception onward, and for generously inviting me to join him as Senior Consulting Editor of the journal as we move forward. Psychoanalytic Perspectives will continue to grow and thrive across the next decade and beyond.

With warm regards and appreciation to our readers for your continued support,

Steven Kuchuck
