Editor Introduction

Welcome to another issue! As a journal, we can offer practice innovations and research because of the work you as practitioners and academics are doing and your willingness to share your work with our readers. I encourage all of you to think about what you have to share and add to the knowledge base in the field of end-of-life and palliative care. Please DO submit your manuscripts to the journal. Our editorial board and reviewers are an excellent source of support through the process as they provide timely and thoughtful reviews. I look forward to seeing your work in the near future!

First, there are three reflections for your further contemplation. Next is an entry in “practice concepts and innovations” that describes a successful VA fellowship program. It is presented as a model that others may follow if considering such a program or this could be how a discussion may begin among agencies or palliative care teams.

The featured research articles include two topics that are little considered in the literature and research. Grandparents provide much child care and assistance in “raising” children in our society today. Naturally, there are situations in which palliative care is necessary while providing care for their grandchildren. Multiple generations can provide much support during this critical time. Weaver et al. present cases that describe grandparents’ experiences in this process. In an international entry from India, Thomas et al. describe the debilitative nature of motor neuron disease and the experiences of family caregivers. Bereaved caregivers of individuals cared for through end of life described support as important throughout the process. A supportive role can be carried out by care managers and social workers to assist these caregivers.
