Abstract
Two supramolecular compounds, (C5H7N2)6[P2Mo5O23] (1) and (C5H7N2)6[Mo7O24] · 3H2O (2) have been synthesized by a simple, fast and efficient technique of microwave irradiation, and their crystal structure, spectroscopic properties have been studied. In 1, the geometry of polyanion [P2Mo5O23]6− can be described as a ring of five MoO6 octahedra with two PO4 tetrahedra capped on each side. The polyanions of 1 are connected to novel 1‐D zigzag chain structure and further extended to 3D supramolecular network through hydrogen bond contacts involving anions and cations and π‐π interactions between 2‐amionpyridinium cations. In 2, the [Mo7O24]6− consists of seven distorted MoO6 octahedra sharing edges and corners, resulting in the peculiar butterfly‐shaped configuration. The 2‐amionpyridinium cations form multipoint hydrogen bonds with [Mo7O24]6− anions and connect the anions into an extended 1D chain.
