Syntheses, Characterization, and Crystal Structures of Two Structurally Similar Schiff Base Nickel(II) Complexes

Pages 193-198 | Received 16 Dec 2006, Accepted 26 Feb 2007, Published online: 24 Apr 2007

Two new structurally similar mononuclear Schiff base nickel(II) complexes, [NiL12(NCS)2] (1) and [NiL22(NCS)2] (2) (L1=4‐nitro‐2‐[(2‐isopropylaminoethylimino)methyl]phenol, L2=2,4‐dichloro‐6‐[(2‐isopropylaminoethylimino)methyl]phenol), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. The Ni atom in each of the complexes is six‐coordinated by two imine N and two phenolate O atoms from two Schiff base ligands, and by two terminal N atoms from two thiocyanate anions, forming an octahedral coordination. The similar Schiff bases used in the preparation of the complexes with nickel(II) nitrate can result in the similar structures of the final products.
