A pair of new mononuclear Schiff base cobalt complexes, [CoIIIL2] · ClO4 (1) and [CoIIL2] · CH3OH (2) (L=4‐chloro‐2‐[(2‐ethylaminoethylimino)methyl]phenol), have been synthesized from the same Schiff base ligand and synthetic procedures, but with different cobalt salts. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Each of the complexes consists of a [CoL2] complex moiety. The main difference between the two structures is the second moiety, viz. perchlorate anion for (1) and methanol molecule for (2). The Co atom in each of the complexes is six‐coordinated by two Schiff base ligands, forming an octahedral coordination. The same Schiff base ligand used in the preparation of the complexes with different cobalt salts can result in different structures of the final products.
