Abstract

Nanomaterials are at the leading edge of the rapidly developing field of nanotechnology. The authors investigated biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles using the fungus Phoma macrostoma. Intracellular biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles was obtained by incubating HAuCl4 solution with the fungal biomass for 48 h. The gold nanoparticles exhibited maximum absorbance at 550 nm in UV-vis spectroscopy. The XRD spectrum showed Bragg reflections corresponding to the gold nanoparticles. Transmission electron microscopy illustrated the production of intracellular gold nanoparticles with the size range of 100–200 nm in spherical, triangle, and rod shapes.
