Reactivity Studies of [RuX2(Me2SO)4] (X = Cl, Br or I) With Imidazoles, Pryazoles, and Substituted Imidazoles/Pyrazoles

Abstract

Reactions of [RuX2(Me2SO)4] (where X = Cl, Br, or I) with imidazole (Im), benzimidazole (BzIm), 2-methylimidazole (2MeIm), pyrazole (pyz), and 3,5-dimethyl pyrazole (dmpz) have been carried out either under refluxing condition or at room temperature in methanol. Compound of the type [RuX2(Me2SO)(L)3] (when X = Cl, L = Im, BzIm, 2MeIm, pyz, or dmpz; X = Br, L = Im, BzIm, pyz, or dmpz or X = I, L = Im, BzIm, pyz, or dmpz) were obtained in good yield. All the compounds obtained were air stable and have been characterized using analytical, electrochemical, and various spectroscopic techniques.
