Abstract

Five supramolecular compounds oriented by bppt[1, 5-bis (pyridinium)pentane cation], [(ZnCl4)(bppt)](1), [CdCl4(bppt)](2), [(CdI4)(bppt)](3), [(HgCl3Br)(bppt)](4), and [(Ag2Br4)(bppt)]n(5) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures of 1–4 are mononuclear tetrahalidmetallates and show that they crystallize in monoclinic systems except compound 3, which is in triclinic system. Compound 5 is in monoclinic system, space group P2 (1)/n in which each monovalent Ag atom is tetrahedrally coordinated by four μ2-Br atom ligands to constitute an infinite 1D (Ag2Br4 2−) anion chain with the organic dication bppt2+ ([C15H20N2]2+) trapped in it.
