A Cobalt(II) Complex Based on 5-Methoxyisophthalic Acid and 1,6-Bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)hexane: Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties

Abstract

A new cobalt(II) complex, [Co2(CH3O-ip)2(1,6-bth)2] n (1), (CH3O-H2ip = 5-methoxyisophthalic acid, 1,6-bth = 1,6-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)hexane), has been synthesized through hydrothermal reaction and further characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra. The X-ray single-crystal structure shows that complex 1 crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pī with a = 9.9118(10), b = 10.1196(10), c = 11.9346(12) Å, α = 67.0660(10) β = 78.1280(10), γ = 71.1160(10)°, V = 1038.76(18) Å3, C19H22CoN6O5, Mr = 473.36, Z = 2, Dc = 1.513 g·cm3, μ(Mo) = 0.871 mm–1, F(000) = 490, R = 0.0242, and wR = 0.0641 for 3,841 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). The adjacent Co ions are bridged by CH3O-ip to form a 1D chain. The 1D chains are further connected by 1,6-bth to generate a 3D network with (3,5)-connected (42·6)(42·65·83) topology. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the occurrence of weak ferromagnetic properties between adjacent Co ions at high temperature.
