Abstract

A new two-dimensional (2D) Co(II) metal–organic framework [Co(dpdo)2(H2O)Br2]n 1 has been synthesized by ionothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, where dpdo is 4,4′-bipyridine-N,N′-dioxide. Co(II) atom has a distorted octahedral environment with a O4Br2 donor set from three dpdo ligands, one coordinated water molecule and two bromine anions. The structure of 1 is a gridlike (4,4)-connected 2D layer network constructed by each dinuclear Co(II) secondary building unit as a node and each μ-4,4,4′-dpdo as a bar. A 2D structure is held together with its neighboring ones via multiform hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure.
