Abstract

The title compound, 2-(γ-aminopropyl)benzimidazole dichloride dihydrate ([H2APB2+][Cl]2·2H2O), was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, 1H NMR, and fluorescent spectroscopic method. Single-crystal X-ray analysis was performed, which reveals that the benzimidazole and amine nitrogen atoms are protonated. The [H2APB2+] ions are linked into a 3D framework by chloride ions and two water molecules via hydrogen bonds, C‒H···π and π-π packing interactions between adjacent benzimidazole rings. Antibacterial activities of [H2APB2+][Cl]2·2H2O have been studied on the strains S. aureus and E. coli.
